The OKE Kinderhilfe e.V.

The OKE Group is a strong community. Our employees are committed to helping children who are born with poor prospects for education and the associated social security. With OKE Children’s Aid, we collect and coordinate the many small donations in order to provide meaningful help on a larger scale. The money flows unabated into our projects without any administrative costs. Helping children to help themselves is our goal: by providing them with a good education and good health, we give them the chance of a better life.

Expansion of the Center for Early Childhood Development in Tumcha

New OKE Children's Aid project in Nepal

In cooperation with the aid organization SWAN Deutschland e.V., we are supporting a new project in Nepal: over the next three years, we will help to further expand the Early Childhood Development (ECD) center in Tumcha in the Humla district in the north-western part of Nepal. This is an opportunity for children in the region to learn and grow early and playfully in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. This lays the foundation for a better future.

Our plans:

with two classrooms, including sanitary facilities, clean drinking water systems and solar lighting, so that the children can learn in a pleasant environment.

with age-appropriate play equipment, school furniture and learning materials to make lessons exciting and varied.

so that they can respond to the children’s needs on site in the long term.

that promote the well-being of children.

Good nutrition is of course important for children’s health and ability to learn, but it also improves their participation in lessons.

Circus project at the elementary school in Venhaus

As part of our annual ‘Your project, our donations’ campaign, we supported the elementary school in Venhaus with a one-off donation of EUR 500 at the end of last year together with OKE Kinderhilfe.

With donations from various companies, a circus project was realized with the pupils at the beginning of June: Together with the experienced team from Circus Charlie, the old Böker farm was transformed into a colorful circus world – full of magic, artistry and team spirit!

The pupils from Venhaus elementary school slipped into completely new roles: Whether as jugglers, acrobats, clowns or tightrope walkers – the children trained with enthusiasm and dedication for their big performances. The circus tent became a classroom, the circus ring a stage. The focus was not only on motor skills, but also on self-confidence, creativity and teamwork.

›Warm children's shoes‹

Thomas Schmidt, one of our employees, presented Susanne Vollmer from Diakonisches Werk in Plettenberg with the donation from OKE Kinderhilfe for the ›Warm Children’s Shoes‹ project.

Susanne Vollmer reported on the plight of many families who are unable to provide their children with shoes suitable for winter. Children’s shoes are usually very expensive for families living on the poverty line. The Diakonisches Werk was delighted to receive the donation from OKE Kinderhilfe, which will enable it to support the families quickly and unbureaucratically in January.

Now all children can enjoy winter in the fresh air with warm and dry feet.

Maluna Kunterbunt

At the end of December 2025, Sabine Bartelheim handed over a donation to the ‘Manula Kunterbunt’ inclusion circus. “Now we can start the new year relaxed,” says initiator Angela Hölscher, delighted with the “wonderful Christmas present”.
Together with the Minden Lübbecke Heimatpreis, funding has been secured for the coming year.
Manula Kunterbunt is a group of around 20 people aged between eight and 70, with and without disabilities, who meet once a week to become artists. In this protected space, everyone can try out their skills without pressure. And of course there is a performance once a year.

WeSpE

The purpose of the Westerkappelner Elterninitiative für Spielen und Erleben (WeSpE) is to promote child and youth welfare and to support young people in their individual and social development. The association aims to prevent or reduce disadvantages and contributes to maintaining or creating positive living conditions for young people and their families as well as a child- and family-friendly environment.
Our donation will be used for the Westerkappeln excavation camp. The learning location for children and young people combines technical work (archaeology), social learning (teamwork, inclusion) and communal and intergenerational encounters.
To this end, project groups from Lotte-Westerkappeln comprehensive school are developing an area of approx. 450m2 on the grounds of Regenbogenland, an existing larger project area on Kapellenweg in Westerkappeln. This area will be transformed into an archaeological adventure camp through structural and didactic-conceptual measures. A place for all those interested in palaeosciences (earth history, fossils, early human history) and historical archaeology (Germanic-Roman antiquity, Middle Ages) or who want to take part in one of the events there.

Harzenergie cultural power plant in Goslar

With this donation, we want to enable children to participate in and support the local cultural landscape. In 1910, generators provided the electricity for the town of Goslar – today the energy and power comes from the artists – rousing, dynamic, powerful, harmonious with positive vibrations and often full of excitement. Energy that is transferred to the audience.
Space – artists – audience form the framework for the performances, which are selected with great commitment and care. The aim is always to create unique, inspiring experiences for audiences and artists alike.

OKE Kinderhilfe thrives on small, regular donations and one-off donations. These include, for example, milestone birthdays and anniversaries, for which OKE employees in particular would like a donation for ‘our’ children instead of gifts. But our free bouncy castle or trailer hire for employees is also often appreciated with a donation to the children’s charity.

From time to time, we also raise funds through campaigns at our locations, which we donate for special expenses in our projects. Regular donations go towards the daily food, accommodation and education needs of children and young adults. We support local structures in their daily work on site.

Cebu City

Night after night, Father Kulüke visits the countless street children of Cebu City in the Philippines, who live in shocking poverty. Many of them find a new home in a center funded by donations.

Clean water

Our project manager informed us about the situation in Burkina Faso, where around 89 out of every 1,000 children die before their fifth birthday. Many suffer from diseases that are exacerbated by a lack of sanitary facilities. Four out of five people have no access to a latrine, which jeopardizes the health of their community. Many of the diseases could be prevented through better hygiene.

Since 2022, we have been supporting the construction of composting latrines and hand-washing facilities for poor families in Samba as part of a pilot project. The materials used come from local businesses, which strengthens identification with the construction. People also receive training on hygiene and health.

Another part of the project is dedicated to training girls to become plumbers, as there is a great need in Burkina Faso but hardly any affordable training places. With a degree, the women can support their families and spread preventative health measures in their community.

Ethiopia

Between 2020 and 2022, one of our main projects was in northern Ethiopia in the Tigray region in the city of Rama, just a few kilometers from the border with Eritrea.

The basis for a better future

The region is characterized by HIV, malaria and the effects of the past Ethiopian-Eritrean war. The area is also affected by droughts and food shortages. A total of 50 children between the ages of six and 13 from precarious family backgrounds, mostly half or full orphans, are supported by OKE Children’s Aid with basic care in the form of food, clothing, hygiene utensils and learning materials, as well as psychosocial support. The project has now been handed over to a new organization.

Vietnam

Hearing & Beyond in Hội, Vietnam, provides schooling for the deaf. There are hardly any schools for them in the country, so we can offer the children an important opportunity for an independent life with this facility.

School education

There are around 200,000 children with hearing loss in Vietnam. As hearing tests at birth are not common and access to modern audiological technology is limited, early intervention is difficult. Although Hội has a population of around 100,000 people, there is no schooling for hearing-impaired children.

With Hearing & Beyond, they learn to read and write so that they can communicate in the hearing world. In addition to the normal reading, writing, math, speech and sign language lessons, the children also develop their life skills so that they can later find their way in the hearing world, make friends and earn a living.

Our first project in South Africa

History

Through a former employee, our owner Thomas Tillner learned that Kindernothilfe wanted to close two homes in India and was looking for a new sponsor. No sooner said than done – a few weeks later, we founded OKE Kinderhilfe e.V. Thanks to donations from our employees, we have achieved a great deal to date:

Between 2005 and 2020, we financed a boys’ and a girls’ home with a total of 150 children in the southern Indian region of Tamil Nadu. Thanks to our help, the children had safe accommodation and received an education, healthy meals and clothing. All the children were orphans or half-orphans and would have had to work in the fields without our help. We enabled the boys and girls to be children and grow up in a protected environment.

During this time, we also supported a school in South Africa that was close to our plant in Cape Town. We helped the school to finance meals, school materials and later also the construction of a new school. The project has since been passed on to another organization.
